The 2nd Annual Zimba Women Technology for Business Summit will be an International 2-day interactive learning, professional development and Business to Business match making event to be held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
The Summit gathers women-owned or women-led Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) to generate discussion and exchange on the potential of entrepreneurship promotion and innovation to national and regional competitiveness using ICT tools.

The theme for this year is “Harnessing opportunities of global trade to empower the African Woman”

The summit will establish multiple business-to-business linkages thus creating a platform for various businesses to showcase the business and technological strengths of their SME sector to the country.

It will feature activities such as interactive learning sessions, group discussions, workshops, exhibition and interactive meetings that will help participants gain ample information strategies, insights, mentors and perspectives on business.

The workshops will mainly focus on access to finance, access to markets, access to technology, capacity enhancement, women empowerment, and the girls' mentoring programme.

COLONEL REBECCA MPAGI

In the days gone by, it was considered unfeminine for women to join the army. In fact, it is said that when the late Idi Amin was president, no woman was allowed to join the army.
However, for Lt. Col. Rebecca Mpagi, no amount of discouragement and stereotyping would keep her out of the army. She became an aviation engineer and the first female pilot in Uganda.

Founder, Hairbyzziwa

ZZIWA

Zziwa is a graduate of Computer Science from Makerere University. His journey in the hairdressing industry started in 2010 when he enrolled at the Tina school of beauty in Kampala. After a short stint at the school, he went on to open his first saloon a makeshift structure, in Gayaza.
In October 2015, Zziwa decided to start up the Hair by Zziwa studio which has then seen him received numerous recognitions and awards both here in Uganda and abroad. He has also graced the pages of the Beijing Kids magazine. His award wins include the following: Best Urban hairstylist in Beijing (2015), Best African Hairstylist (2013), Hairstylist of the year (ASFAS 2016)

JOSEPHINE ESISA

A graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, Josephine chose to sway from the path of employment and create her own avenues. Choosing to use the skills she acquired, Josephine alongside her friend and now business partner started their digital marketing company Digimark Communications. www.digimarkug.com

Innovation and Strategy- Partner at Deloitte East Africa

MABEL NDAWULA

Mabel is an international management consultant with over 14 years of experience working with national governments, international aid development partners, non-governmental organizations, civil society and private sector organizations. She has led program management assignments in variousAfrican countries. 
Mabel began her career working with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics as a data clerk for 3 months, before joining Deloitte East Africa in 2003. She worked with the Deloitte U.S Federal Consulting Practice on a 6-month Secondment in 2014, and now holds the role of Consulting Leader for Deloitte’s Uganda practice. 

Innovations Specialist at Financial Sector Deepening Uganda.

PETER KAWUMI

Peter manages a portfolio of projects in the innovative financial services unit at FSD
Peter’s career spans over 10 years including various roles in technology, business analysis and retail banking, including heading digital finance departments. He has extensive experience in product development, customer acquisition, channel utilization and scaling strategies in the digital financial services (DFS) space.
Peter is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, holds a BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering from Kingston University and an MBA from the Edinburgh Business School. He has also attended various DFS-related, leadership, project management and market system development courses.

Manager, Corporate Finance / Infrastructure Advisory, Deloitte East Africa.

KENNETH LEGESI

Kenneth is passionate about catalysing financing and developing innovative funding models for start-ups and SME businesses in Africa. He develops strategies and helps businesses execute on and operationalize their strategies including raising financing and supporting management teams. 

He has over 15 years’ experience working with and advising businesses across multiple sectors including financial services, technology, manufacturing, health sciences and public sector organisations. He has practical experience having been involved in various start-up and SME businesses in different capacities as an investor, advisor, coach, and mentor. He has also worked with accelerator programmes and hubs in Uganda.

Commissioner Customs, Uganda Revenue Authority

KATESHUMBWA C. DICKSONS

Dicksons is the Commissioner Customs at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), a Senior Management position that oversees trade facilitation and revenue collection. With over 11 years’ experience at the Revenue Authority. He started work as a Customs Auditor, went on to become Supervisor Tax Investigations where he oversaw investigations into tax fraud and avoidance schemes, later as Assistant Commissioner Customs Audit and then Commissioner Customs. He holds record of the shortest time taken (9 years) for one to raise to the highest office of Department.  He is a Team leader of more than 800 staff in customs

He is an expert in Post Clearance Audit and Risk Management. Has been involved in coordinating several IMF Missions at the authority and well as Facilitated Strategic Workshops and Dialogue on behalf of the WCO/World Bank in Swaziland.

Chief Strategy Officer, Milima Technologies

OLGA KICONCO

Olga Kiconco is passionate about using her strong business acumen, technology background and international exposure to help the start-up community thrive in today’s competitive innovation and entrepreneurship landscape.
She is currently the Chief Strategy Officer at Milima Technologies Uganda, and a part-time ICT Business consultant at The Innovation Village Kampalaconnecting the dots on how technology can address some long-standing socio-economic challenges in Uganda and the continent at large.

STELLA KIWANUKA

Stesh Consults is a consultancy firm that specializes in marketing and public relations. She is also an associate member of the Association of Business Executives. 
Stella works with different companies in regards to communications and marketing as her day to day occupation. 
She is highly passionate about motivational speaking especially for the role it plays in bringing change in people's social, emotional, economic and spiritual wellbeing especially for the Youth and Young adults.

PETER KIHIIGI

With over 19 years’ experience in the delivery of complex, secure, successful IT projects and enterprise risk management. In light of his achievements, Peter was recognized as the top Chief Information Officer (CIO) in Africa for the year 2008 at the prestigious African Achievers Awards.
He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Cybercrime Initiative (CCI), the Information Security Forum (ISF), ISACA and the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium ((ISC)²). 
Peter is a member of the Cybersecurity Advisory Panel of the Global Cyber Security Capacity Centre. 

Partner, Bowman Law

BRIAN KALULE

Brian is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda. His practice covers a breadth of areas in General Commercial Litigation that includes Banking, Insurance, Competition Law and Arbitration. 
Brian also handles the firm’s information and Communications Technology law aspects and advises some of the world’s biggest information technology companies.

He is a member of the International Bar Association where he is part of the Corporate Law and M&A Committee, a member of the East Africa Law Society and also sits on the Research and Publications Committee of the Uganda Law Society.

​Brian has also acted as Deputy Judge at the Commercial Court of Uganda and is currently Secretary of the legal committee of the Uganda Bankers Association. Brian holds an LLB degree from Makerere University Kampala and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center.

VANESSA ATIM

Vanessa Atim is a CIM Marketer with 6 years experience in Sales and Marketing. 

In August 2015 Atim launched ProInterns, Uganda's first online internship platform which connects students and graduates with employers through internship, volunteer and entry-level opportunities. Through its Skilling First programme ProInterns delivers interactive employability skills training 

ProInterns was created to help curb the high youth unemployment rates in Uganda, Atim believes that through hands on work experience and skills training, youth unemployment can be tackled effectively. 

Atim is extremely passionate about up-skilling youth and talent development in Uganda, holding the belief that every student and graduate has the potential to thrive and deserves the opportunity to better their chances of being gainfully employed.

RICHARD OKUTI

Richard Okuti is an enterprising person with expertise in applied ICT for business and development.

Passionate about Agribusiness, applied ICT and Tourism, he brings a wealth of experience from working with the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Trade Development and Promotion, I-Network (An IICD-Netherlands initiated organization), in several project formulation and implementation initiatives especially in ICT and livelihood.

He has, in addition, started SME’s where he has worked with Makerere University to develop and promote the triple helix concept to catalyse government, academia and private sector work together in commercialization of innovations, he has managed several Network & Web projects.

He coordinated the organization of the 2nd Global Cassava Partnership Conference, West Nile @100 & other events and activities in ICT, Agriculture & Tourism.

A member of the Alliance for Trade in Information Technology and Services (ATIS) and Global Alumni Association of AIESEC, his network around the world is extensive.

CEO, Splendid Mushroom

CPNSOLATA MUHINDI

Consolata Muhindi is a passionate farmer who is the CEO of Splendid Mushroom Enterprises which deals in growing and selling of Oyster Mushroom. She believes agriculture is of immense value to a country’s economy. Previously she has worked as a financial advisor with National Bank of Kenya for one year before quitting for full time farming. This is an astute individual that is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Finance Degree at Maseno University and holds a Bachelors degree in Finance from Kabarak University as well as CPA 4. When not reading, she spends time in the garden. She is a refined alumnus of Vijana Reloaded Kenya, a trained peer counselor and a member of Zimba women Uganda. Miss. Muhindi resides in Kakamega, Kenya.

Founder, AYDIA Technology Consults Uganda limited

AIDA BUKUBUZA

Aidah Bukubuza is founder of AYDIA Technology Consults Uganda limited, a tech entrepreneur company empowering youth and women in peri –urban and rural areas through technology skill trainings, health innovations, agritech, advocacy and ICT for business/entrepreneurship. Aidah is also a co-founder, marketing and Research coordinator at DIGI health limited a “Tech for Health” company that develops low cost open source tools to support development organisations in health by improving their data collection and decision support processes.

Aidah has over 6 years’ experience in information Systems and Marketing IT solutions. She is also a co-founder and Program Manager at Bernice Women, an organisation advocating for rights against violence among women and girls. She is tasked with empowering women voices using ICT tools and platforms for awareness. Aidah is an alumnus of former President Obama’s Regional Leadership Centre Young African Leadership initiative RLC (YALI) Nairobi Kenya and Tuwezeshe Fellow 2017.
